Kev, of Retford, set up a raffle for Bluebell Wood from his shop, Kev’s Carpets, which he has owned for the last nine years.

The raffle prizes were bought by Kev or generously donated, and the raffle was drawn at his milestone birthday on September 16 at Retford Town Hall, which featured Peter Kay tribute act, Lee Lard, from Doncaster.

Kev explained: “I chose Bluebell Wood as it is a wonderful local charity, which provides much needed support for poorly children and their families.

“I believe it’s important to give something back to your community, and I couldn’t think of a more worthy cause than my local children’s hospice.

“I would like to give a big thank you on behalf of everyone who helped make the event a reality.

“The entertainment and catering – which was provided by Tina from the Imperial Tea Rooms – made for a fantastic evening, and I’m glad we could all come together, have fun, and raise money for such a brilliant cause.”

Melanie Rose, community fund-raiser at Bluebell Wood, added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Kev for thinking of Bluebell Wood during his birthday celebrations.

“We are so grateful for the amazing support we get from our local community and people like Kev.

“Every penny raised will help us to continue to care for our children and families all year round.”

It costs more than £4 million each year to run Bluebell Wood, providing support both at the hospice and in the community.
