Bike week events to get you on two wheels

NATIONAL Bike Week begins on Saturday and Gainsborough will be hosting the most events of all the towns taking part.

That’s down to the dedication of local co-ordinators Trevor Halstead and Daniel Nicholson, of Church Street Cycles.

On Saturday Gainsborough Aegir and CTC cyclists will be at the Riverside Festival to give advice and talk about topics related to cycling.

Mr Nicholson will also give a cycle training demonstration.

On Sunday cyclists of all abilities are encouraged to take part in a sponsored ride for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.

There will be rides for all the family of ten, 15 and 30 miles, along with a ride for toddlers.

They all start at 10.30am from Gainsborough Adventure Play Ground on Riseholme Road. Sponsor forms are available from Church Street Cycles.

In the afternoon there will be a pedalling picnic in Richmond Park, Morton Terrace, from 4pm onward. Cycle to the park and take your own picnic.

If you’ve ever fancied a go at racing then on Wednesday there is the eight-mile novice race time trial, with trophies awarded to the winners.

Bike2Work will be running all week, encouraging people to donate to charity the money they save by cycling to work instead of driving.

Free 31-point visual bike safety checks will also be available all week at Church Street Cycles.

On Sunday 24th June there will be a leisure ride of 120 miles to York. Cyclists should meet at Roseway at 4am and register their intent to ride with Mr Halstead.
