Beckingham: Parish council hits out about wind farm plan

The chairman of Beckingham Parish Council has spoken out about his objection to plans for a six wind turbine farm on land between Gainsborough and Saundby.

Coun Kevin Senior is opposed to the plans submitted to Bassetlaw District Council by Partnerships for Renewables (PfR).

Coun Senior said: “Wind farms at sea are fine and the reason for that is the wind blows twice a day, in the morning and again at night with the tide.”

“They don’t work the same way on land.”

“When we asked residents two years ago the residents didn’t support the wind farm.”

“And we don’t support the wind farm.”

“The company promised to keep us in the loop but they have not done this so I don’t trust them.”

“They put the planning application in and all the documents we need to evaluate what they propose doing to allow us to raise any objections within 21 days were not available until two days after it had been submitted.”

“I would prefer to see them out at sea as they are far more worthwhile.”

“We want residents to come and talk to us about their feelings and express those feelings in writing to the council within the 21 day consultation period.”

Beckingham Parish Council is holding a surgery at the Recreation Rooms on Thursday 5th June between 3pm and 7pm.

Or you can go along to the John Robinson Memorial Hall in Church Street, Gainsborough, on Friday 30th May also between 3pm and 7pm.

Full details of the application can be found at www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/planning_and_building/planning_on-line.aspx.

Gainsborough Town Council is also encouraging local residents to voice their opinion on the application.
