Beauty raises £1k

A BUDDING beauty queen from North Anston has helped raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Shauny Spurr is through to the final of Miss South Yorkshire 2012 and as part of her quest for the crown she organised a talent show at the Resource Centre in Dinnington.

The event raised £1,030 for Safe@Last and Rotherham Hospice – the two chosen charities of the Miss South Yorkshire competition.

Shauny, a sixth form pupil at Wales High School, said the talent show was a great success.

The 17-year-old said: “It went really well. We had lots of different acts.”

“There were three professional singers and then lots of other different singers and dancers.”

“I thought a talent show would be a really good idea and would raise lots of money for the charities. It did and I raised £1,030.”

Shauny’s fundraising is not stopping there. She’s also taking part in a bag packing event at Tesco in Dinnington, on 18th March between 10am and 4pm, roping in friends and family to help too.

This year is the first time Shauny has entered the Miss South Yorkshire competition.

“I saw it advertised and thought I would give it a go,” she said.

“I didn’t think I was going to get through. I went for some photographs and an interview.”

“That was in September last year and I found out in January that I’d got through to the final.”

Shauny and the other finalists are now taking part in various fundraising event as well as organising their own.

They are alll looking forward to the glittering final of Miss South Yorkshire at the Consort Suite in Thurcroft on 23rd March.

Shauny said: “If I don’t win, which I’m not too fussed about because it is the first time I’ve entered, I will definitely be entering again.”

“It is more fun than anything. You get to meet some really nice girls – we are like a family now and get to raise money for charity.”

The winner of the final will be crowned Miss South Yorkshire and the runner up Miss Sheffield. Both will get the chance to compete for the Miss England title.
