Bassetlaw's homeless people supported through rotary fund

The collaboration between the Rotary Club of Retford and Hope Community Services, which aim is to promote social inclusion, tackle disadvantage, homelessness and its causes, recognises clients who achieve change in their lives, to help them resettle back into the community when they move out of crisis.

The award is designed to provide practical help and assistance to ensure the best chance of future success.

Alan Diggles, Hope’s chief executive officer said: “The Rotarians of Retford, through their Percy Laws fund, have been a consistent supported of homeless people, their help is crucial in giving those who are rebuilding their lives, a lifeline to independence.”

As well as presenting three Service Users with awards, Retford Rotary Club has helped create an “Emergency Fund”, to allow Hope to provide essentials for clients who arrive without anything.

This will allow users access to hygiene essentials, toiletries and medication, travel to hospital appointments or to attend a family funeral outside of the district. It will also help Hope to offer sleeping bags and small tents for those they cannot accommodate, because they are currently are full and have no beds available.
