Bassetlaw: Worksop leads the way as GCSE pass rates rises across the district

Worksop schools enjoyed a bumper year for GCSE results and played a major part in an overall rise in pass rates across Bassetlaw.

Figures released by Notts County Council show there was a 5.7 per cent rise in the number of students achieving five or more passes at grades A* to C, including English and maths, 3.9 per cent rise in those achieving five more passes at grade A* to C across all subjects, and an 11 per cent rise in those obtaining the English Baccalaurate at grades A* to C in English, maths, science, history or geography and a foreign language.

Worksop was a big reason for the success story with both Outwood Academy Portland and Outwood Academy Valley recording increased success rates.

Portland saw a massive 17.8 per cent rise in the number of students achieving five or more GCSE passes at grades A* to C, including maths and English, while there was a 15.2 per cent rise in those achieving the English Baccalaurate.

At Valley, the GCSE pass rate was up 12.2 per cent overall, while the number achieving the English Baccalaurate rose by 10.7 per cent.

Serlby Park also saw its Baccalaurate pass rate rise slightly, by 1.3 per cent, but the number achieving five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C was down by 2.9 per cent.

English Baccalaurate pass rates were also up in Retford at Elizabethan Academy, Retford Oaks and Tuxford Academy.

But only Oaks saw its number of students passing five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C increase, up by 13.8 per cent, while the numbers were down by 5.8 per cent at Elizabethan and 5.4 per cent at Tuxford.
