Bassetlaw: Simone and team recognised at healthcare worker awards

Simone Ritchie was recognised with the Unsung Hero award for her work in implementing the ‘React to Red’ campaign across the district at the Nottinghamshire Healthcare’s OSCARS awards this month.

Simone has worked with 28 Bassetlaw care homes to train staff in pressure ulcer prevention, and to develop a link champion network made up of care home workers able to train their colleagues.

Since she joined the Bassetlaw Hospitals Trust in 2012, Simone’s work has helped to reduce the development of ulcers amongst care home residents in the district by 55 per cent.

Simone said: “I am absolutely over the moon and extremely honoured to have won.

“I’d like to express a massive congratulations to all the nominees. I think they’re all winners.”

Adwick Ward, based at Rampton Hospital in Retford, were also recognised at the ceremony.

The team scooped the Outstanding Care and Compassion award and were praised for their ‘compassion and excellent nursing care’ in helping patients to recover from acute mental health issues.

Also celebrating from Rampton Hospital were Jonathon Slater, nurse psychotherapist who won the Innovator of the Year Award, Ian Tennant, deputy director of Forensic Services, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Physical Healthcare Team who won Team of the Year.

A total 127 healthworkers from Bassetlaw were nominated, with 34 individuals and teams shortlisted.
