The awards are a celebration of youth achievement organised by Nottinghamshire County Council with the overall winner for the county being announced on 1st November.

Alex, 18, from Worksop was nominated for the way he has achieved his dream of playing international cricket, a life-long ambition fulfilled when he was chosen to represent the England Learning Disability team.

He began playing cricket at school and Clumber Park, where his dad and coaches play, when he was six.

He then represented the club, his school and Bassetlaw in mainstream cricket before he was 11.

At St Giles School in Retford, Alex met Paralympic gold medallist Richard Whitehead who recommended he attend a session for disability sport.

He then played for the Nottinghamshire disability team and then Yorkshire before, last summer, he was asked to train with, and play for, England.
