Bassetlaw: New music project is ready for opening number

Liz Lenten will lead the first seminar in the new Music Industry Bassetlaw project

The project, which hopes to provide musicians and people working within the music industry with a more business-like approach, will begin a series of sessions that cover a range of essential business topics such as promotion, marketing, publishing and many other areas.

Maurice Mulligan, Bassetlaw District Council’s music enterprise officer, said: “Each of the seminars will focus on specific aspects of the music industry, with the first looking at whether music is a hobby or business and how to enhancing your chances of survival in the industry.”

The first session will be hosted by Liz Lenten, a well-known, respected and highly experienced member of the UK’s music industry.

Liz’s achievements include recording and touring both as a solo artist and with her band Auburn, running her own record label and recording studios and managing other artists such as Mercury Award winner Eliza Carthy and the legendary Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan.

Guest speaker will be Andy Richmond, the current head of the UK division of the Membran Music Group with clients including Joss Stone, Jimmy Web and Dave Stuart and former general manager at Zomba Records where his clients included Britney Spears, Bowling 4 Soup, N-Sync and R-Kelly.

The seminar will take place at Well Community Centre on Hospital Road in Retford between 10am and 4pm with lunch and light refreshments provided.
