Bassetlaw: Music project ready to bear fruit with first album and EP releases

Oasis mentor Alan McGee was among the industry experts who supported the Music Industry Bassetlaw project

The first graduates of this new project have been busy recording and producing original material for the first time.

And this will be released on MIBs own online record label, following a 13-week programme of mentoring from music industry experts.

One of the graduates, aspiring musician Jimmy Cogg who works in property by day, completed his new EP at Superfly Studios in Ollerton and is set to release his music at the end of the month.

“Music Industry Bassetlaw has been an incredibly rich and satisfying experience for me,” said Jimmy.

“I’ve learnt a great deal, taken my own music and confidence further than I ever envisaged, met some really great people and contacts and had my eyes opened to the vast music industry.”

“I still can’t believe that I’m about to release my first EP and I don’t think I would have been possible without being part of the mentoring scheme.”

“It is delivered by people who are actively engaged in running their own businesses.”

“It has been carefully crafted to stimulate and mentor those who are genuinely interested in pursuing a career in the music business.”

The Music Industry Bassetlaw project started last year and has involved a series of seminars and workshops for musicians and people wanting to be involved in the music industry.

It has looked at all aspects of the industry from writing and producing music, to promotion, marketing and business and has heard from a series of experts, including Oasis producer Alan McGee.

The MIB Mentoring Scheme is free to Bassetlaw residents and will begin on Monday 29th September.

It is not only about encouraging musicians and performers, but anyone who has an interest in forging a career in the music industry.

Other graduates from the first scheme include managers, promoters and recording engineers and producers.

In addition, the next MIB seminar will take place on Saturday, 18th October at The Well in Retford and will focus on finance, in particular crowd and pledge funding.
