Museum Curator Samantha Glasswell and Museum Officer Kasia Wosiak picked up the award at a glittering ceremony at Worksop College earlier this month after fending off competition from tourism heavyweights and fellow finalists Clumber Park and Idle Valley Nature Reserve.

The awards, hosted by North Notts Business Connections, celebrated the expertise and achievements in the Bassetlaw and Sherwood business community and it is the first year the ‘Best Tourist Attraction’ Award has been presented.

Samantha Glasswell said; “As this was an award decided by the general public, I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who voted for us.”

“Although museums are about the past, they are also relevant to the present and the future and it’s particularly significant that these awards are organised by and for the business community. “

“Studies have shown that museums have an important impact on their local economy and help to attract people to a place who then want to eat, shop and stay in the locality. If you haven’t yet visited our now ‘award-winning’ museum, please come and visit us.”

Bassetlaw Museum, located on Grove Street in Retford, is a free attraction and is open Monday to Saturday between 10am and 4.30pm.
