The Bassetlaw MP was debating against a former Lord Mayor of London, a lawyer, and a hedge fund manager who were all arguing for the motion: ‘the financial city is a force for good.’

He was asked to debate light of his campaign work for better regulation of the banking sector and as a member of the Treasury Select Committee.

He said: “We need a stronger debate in this country on the future of banking regulation, and the ethics of the companies who make enormous profits often at the expense of the taxpayer.”

“It is unacceptable that people in areas like Bassetlaw have to suffer cuts because of a crisis they had no hand in creating.”
