The move follows the death of Alice Gross, the 14-year old schoolgirl who was found dead on 30th September. It is widely believed that she was killed by a convicted murderer who served seven years in prison in Latvia.

John Mann MP said: “The Government has admitted that its ‘Disclosure and Barring Service check’ only reveals convictions held by EU citizens which are logged in central records in the United Kingdom.”

“This means that there are dangerous criminals who come to the UK free to repeat the offences they have carried out in their home countries. I have therefore tabled a motion which calls on the Government to force foreign-born citizens to disclose any convictions they hold when they apply for a job in the UK.”
