Bassetlaw: Hospice celebrates their 20th birthday with a party in the park

Bassetlaw Hospice, Retford, celebrated their 20th birthday in style and had a party in the park, which raised a grand total of £1,434 for the charity.

The day began with a village sports day which saw teams including the Retford Lions and The Doncaster Knights go head to head and compete against each other in traditional games such as the one-legged race and the egg and spoon race, to see who would be crowned the overal champions.

After a series of games, the Doncaster Knights took the winner title and were presented with trophies.

Fundraising raising coordinator, Helen Eshelby said: “ It has been such a pleasure to be able to celebrate 20 years of care at Bassetlaw Hospice with people who have supported us .

“Not as many people turned up as we had hoped but we still had a great day.

“The sun was shining and everyone had a lot of fun.

“Ian, the charity administrator, joined me in the sports day competition and we discovered a lot of muscles we didn’t know we had.

“I look forward to celebrating our 21st birthday next year with the families we have helped.”

The night ended on a high-note with a live performance from Bruvvas Blue, a tribute band duo to the 1970’s Blues Brothers.

The day was sponsored by Retford Enterprise Centre who helped to donate the prizes and trophies.
