Bassetlaw: Health Partnerships take Baby Friendly Award

Bassetlaw Health Partnerships, part of Notts Healthcare, has been awarded the prestigious Baby Friendly Award.

And is the latest UK health care facility to win international recognition from UNICEF (United Nation’s Children’s Fund).

The baby friendly initiative (BFI) is a global programme aimed at protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and strengthening the mother – baby and family relationship.

Alison Jee, infant feeding lea,d said: “Breastfeeding protects babies against a wide range of serious illnesses including gastroenteritis and respiratory infections in infancy as well as asthma, cardiovascular disease and diabetes in later life.”

For the mums of Bassetlaw, they now have access to a variety of support networks, both professional and social in the form of peer support and community activities such as breastfeeding groups, social media network pages and promotional activities.

Baby Friendly Initiative Programme Director, Sue Ashmore, said: “We are delighted that Bassetlaw Health Partnerships has achieved full Baby Friendly status.”

“Surveys show us that most mothers want to breastfeed but don’t always get the support they need.”

“Mothers in Bassetlaw can be confident their healthcare teams will provide high standards of care.”
