The events will again take on a traditional family theme this year. However, the addition of a festive market, featuring log cabins and stalls selling traditional gifts and continental foods, will help to create some extra Christmas cheer.

This year’s lights switch-on has also reverted to a Sunday, which will allow the market to continue for a further two days in each town.

The Worksop lights switch-on will take place on Sunday 23rd November, with the festive market continuing on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th November.

While the Retford lights event will take place on Sunday 30th November, with residents being able to enjoy the Christmas market until 2nd December.

Coun Jo White, cabinet member for regeneration at Bassetlaw Council, said: “The format of last year’s event proved to be extremely popular.”

“But we will be bringing an additional sparkle to the towns of Worksop and Retford this year.”

“There will be log cabins selling traditional bratwurst sausages and lots more festive fare.”

“We are excited to see if the event works on a Sunday, so that local businesses benefit from an extra days trading at the markets.”

“This also gives us the possibility of extending the festive market over three days.”

“This way people have more time to come into town to enjoy the beginning of our Christmas celebrations in Worksop.”

“I know that local shops will be joining in with the Christmas spirit so there will be plenty of things to do and see during the event.”

In addition to the festive market and log cabins, the event will include carol singers.

There will also be a traditional brass band and more musical performances, as well as a fun fair and craft market.
