Bassetlaw: Council leader Coun Simon Greaves gives his views on the local issues that matter to you

I’m thrilled to say that this week, the Council‘s £15,000 of financial assistance to Worksop Town Football Club was rubber stamped, adding to the support that has already been provided by the successful Team 500 Club.

As I have previously stated, I believe it is important for the club to have a firm place at the heart of our community, a position that was re-enforced by their own announcement last week to launch a ‘Football in the Community’ initiative.

The plans that have been released so far sound very impressive and will appeal many different ages and sections of the community.

I look forward to hearing more about the initiative and hope that it will be extremely successful.

I saw this week that Notts police have announced that they are to consult with residents on what policing in the county should look like once their budgets are finalised through their ‘Delivering the Future’ presentation.

If you would like to know more about their proposals and have your say on how budget cuts may affect Bassetlaw, visit the Notts Police website.

I for one will be making my views clear that front line policing in the district should be increased, not depleted.

Throughout October, Keep Britain Tidy will be having a month of action and are encouraging people to take part in the biggest ever litter pick.

I know that a number of our Councillors have already signed up for the ‘Big Tidy Up’ and, with the help and support of local residents, intend to keep their communities clean and tidy.

If you have not already done so and would like to be involved, you can register on the Keep Britain Tidy website and you’ll receive a free kit.

As a Council we will also be doing our bit by asking individuals and community groups to tell us when and where their ‘Big Tidy Up’ will take place and our Environment team will come and collect the rubbish when you have finished.

Finally, it is great to see that work on Worksop’s new bus station has begun.

Barring and major technical difficulties, we should have a fantastic new facility in around 12 months.
