Bassetlaw: A tourism study will find out about historic sites linked to the Pilgrim Fathers

Tourism, recreation and heritage experts, Bowles Green have been appointed by Bassetlaw District Council and Notts County Council following a competitive tendering process.

Their study will help determine the national and international market potential for developing the Pilgrim Father story.

Local sites linked to the Pilgrim Fathers story include the birthplaces of William Bradford and William Brewster, Babworth Church and Gainsborough Old Hall.

Consultation work on the project is already underway and is expected to be complete by April 2015.

Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council, Coun Jo White, said she was really impressed by the credentials of Bowles Green, particularly their experience working with a variety of visitor attractions and supporting Heritage Lottery and other bids for funding.

Coun White said: “Bowles Green bring with them a strong background in heritage education and storytelling.”

“I was pleased to learn they have an associate partner in the United States who work closely with tour operators over there.”

The study coincides with the launch of the six year countdown to 2020 which marks the anniversary of the Mayflower landing in Plymouth, Massachusetts and the formation of a collaboration of destinations associated with the Mayflower to promote the anniversary on a national and international basis.
