Barlborough: Shoppers warned of suspected cash machine scam

Officers were called to the Spar store in Ash Close at 9.30am on Friday 22nd May after a shopper discovered the equipment and handed it to staff.

Members of the Barlborough Safer Neighbourhood Team are urging people to be aware of the incident and ask that they are vigilant when using an ATM.

Advice for people using cash points includes before using a cash machine, check to see if there is anything stuck to it or for anything that looks unusual, if it looks like it has been tampered with then do not use it and report it to the bank named on the ATM or police immediately, use your free hand to cover the PIN pad to prevent anyone seeing your PIN as you key it in, if you are distracted by anyone when using a cash machine cancel the transaction and try to recover the card. contact your bank if your card is swallowed by a cash machine and check your bank statements to make sure money is not being taken from your account using a counterfeit card.
