Police officers found Nathan Goldsborough near a red alpha Romeo in a car park off Chesterfield Road South, on February 15.

Morgan Hogarth, mitigating, said Goldsborough had just bought the car for £250 and had only driven it in the car park.

He said his client suffered from depression and anxiety and was due to have a mental health assessment this week.

Goldsborough, 24, of Brick Kiln Lane, admitted driving while disqualified, and with no insurance or a valid licence, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.

The court heard he had been banned for 12 months in May 2017, for failing to provide a specimen, and had only attended one third of his probation meetings.

District judge Jonathan Taaffe told Goldsborough: “You are trying your best to talk yourself into a prison sentence.

“I accept you have medical difficulties but they didn’t stop you from buying a car when it was uninsured, not taxed and you were disqualified until May this year.”

He was given 14 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £115 government surcharge. He was banned for a further 12 months.
