Flowers and tributes were also left in Stoney Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Before the balloons were released Kelly Ashley said: “We have gathered to let Mel know how much we love her and appreciate her.

“Everyone of us has special memories of Mel and when we lay our flowers I want us to think of the happy times she brought to us all. We love you Mel.

“She was a wonderful person.”

People have also been paying tribute to Melanie on the Chad’s Facebook page.

Errin Goodwin wrote: “RIP Mel. Won’t ever forget the first time I met you. God bless you angel.”

Rachel Oates wrote: “RIP Melanie Wilson. Really wanted this lovely young lady to be found safe and well, such a shock. My heart and thoughts go out to her family. So sorry.”

Chris Cope said: “So so sad. RIP sweetheart. Fly high with the angels. Another beauty taken way to soon. Thinking of the family at this such sad time.”

And landlord at the Rose and Crown, Martin Howard, who helped to organise searches for Melanie, said: “We’re really sorry she wasn’t found safe and well. I hope her family is doing okay.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed to try and get her home safe and well.

“I hope this makes people stop and listen and realise that there are vulnerable out there and we have got to do more to help them in this area.

“We are going to keep the group going so if anyone else goes missing we have got everyone in place to a search going straight away and the more people we can find safe and well.”

On Thursday, November 10, Newcross Community Church in Downing Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, will be opening from 3pm to 8pm for a condolences service where members of the public can go in and light a candle for Melanie. There will be photos and songs chosen specially for Melanie being played.
