Athlete visit

Youngsters at Harthill Primary got into the Olympic spirit when an athlete hoping to make it to London 2012 visited.

Rosie Marino, who competes in the 400 metre hurdles and pentathlon, visited the school as part of a Sports 4 All event.

The Sheffield University student spoke to pupils about her training, keeping fit and the importance of eating healthy.

She also helped all the children in four fitness activities, which they had each been sponsored for.

Teacher Jan Skepper said the sponsorship money was still being counted, but in excess of £300 has been raised which will be divided between the school and the athletes supported by Sports 4 All.

She added: “Every single child took part in the fitness activities. They really enjoyed it.”

“The class who has raised the most money will be getting a trophy.”

“It’s nice because we can make a display about Rosie in the school and then track her progress, which will hopefully see her at the Olympics.”
