Emergency services were called to a property in Katherine Road, Thurcroft, at around 9.45pm on Tuesday following reports a man had been found injured.

The man was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and is currently in a serious condition.

Detective Inspector Simon Palmer said: “This was a sustained assault on a vulnerable man in his own home and we are working hard to gather as much information as we can about what may have happened.

“Officers are in the local area carrying out house-to-house enquires and we remain at the scene gathering evidence to try and identify those responsible for this awful crime.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance for the local community and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may hold information.”

If you were in the Katherine Road area between 4pm and 10pm yesterday evening and witnessed any suspicious behaviour or activity, call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1152 of 27 October 2015.

Detectives also continue to investigate the assault of an 80-year-old man in the Salisbury Road area of Maltby on Thursday, October 1.

Two 19-year-old men remain on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary.

At this time, there is nothing to suggest that the two incidents are linked but officers are exploring all possibilities and keeping an open mind.
