Anston: Christmas Fair is a big community success

Organised by the PTA, the event featured mulled wine, mince pies and a visit from Father Christmas.

And while the sum raised has not yet been finalised, PTA treasurer Sue Fletcher says it looks a handsome amount.

“This is our main fund-raising event of the year and it has been very well supported once again,” she said.

“We are still adding up the final total but once again it looks like the local people have been very generous.”

“We also have received some excellent support from local businesses this year, as well as donations from larger businesses like the big supermarkets and we want to thank them all for their support.”

“It really is a community effort this event and everyone plays their part.”

As well as food and drink, the fair featured games including Christmas Wheel of Fortune and the Stocking Game where children drew a number from the stocking and received a present corresponding to that number.

“The parents think of all the games and it’s a challenge each year to come up with something different but they keep doing it,” commented Mrs Fletcher.

The money raised will go towards supporting the school and helping pay for the things they could otherwise not afford.

“This year, we paid for some new flooring to be put down on the school playground and we recently donated £1,000 for new books,” said Mrs Fletcher.

“We have also paid for school trips to events like seeing performances of Shakespeare in Rotherham in the past and with the success of events like the Christmas Fair, we will be able to keep supporting the school in this way.”
