Ancient illiminated manuscript to light up Priory Christmas Fair

VISITORS to the Priory Christmas Fair in Worksop this weekend will be able to see the Tickhill Psalter manuscript on display.

Started by John Tickhill during his time as Prior of the Monastery of Worksop in the early 1300s, the Tickhill Psalter is claimed to be ‘the finest example of English Gothic illuminated manuscript in existence’.

The original manuscript is kept at New York Public Library but the director of the library Mr Franklyn F. Hopper, made a special visit to Worksop in 1946 to present the town with a replica copy, which is still kept at Worksop Library.

The Priory’s Christmas Fair will take place from 10.30am-2.30pm on Saturday 1st December. Entry is free and open to all.
