All fired upfor learning skills

An EXHILARATING demonstration by young people from Trent Valley Academy marked the end of a skill building course run by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service.

A group of year nine pupils completed the Firebreak course at Gainsborough Fire Station.

It was a proud moment for all involved as Lincolnshire’s chief fire officer Dave Ramskill presented certificates in a passing out parade.

The Firebreak course is held over a number of days during the school term when youngsters learn firefighting and rescue techniques in realistic scenarios.

An exciting part of the course is when they must wear breathing apparatus and safely navigate their exit from a smoke filled room.

“The students were clearly instilled with team building skills and their confidence visibly grew as the course progressed,” said Trent Valley Academy director of business and resources John Cawdell.

“We are very grateful to the fire service for providing these courses for our students.”

Firebreak courses aim to offer young people an energetic physical challenge and the chance to learn skills in firefighting, safety awareness, first aid, team building, communication and personal development.
