Last month, frustrated residents contacted the Chad to express their concerns over traffic problems on Park Hall Road.

They have also said that the proposed new Aldi store on Leeming Lane South will add hundreds more cars and make matters worse every day.

But an Aldi spokesperson said: “We’re aware that traffic is a sensitive issue in the area and are keen to ensure that our plans don’t cause congestion on local roads. We are confident that, with our proposed highways improvements, local roads can accommodate our proposal and ensure safe access for those travelling to the store by car and on foot.”

The Residents Association has been fighting traffic issues in the area since 2006 and they have also been backed by local councillor, Joyce Bosnjak.

She said: “I still feel that despite all measures, it is still an inappropriate and unsafe access point.”

Local road campaigner, Walter Bailey (73), has lived in the area for 40 years. He thinks that the new supermarket “will only make the congestion worse”.
