Adult Learners Week events

Residents are being urged to unleash their inner artist during a series of events next week.

Throughout Adult Learners Week, which takes place between Saturday 12th May and Friday 18th May, there will be opportunities to get involved and try something new.

Rotherham Council’s Extended Learning team have a programme of events for people to take part in including creative crafts, car making, jewellery making and language taster sessions.

There will also be a chance to explore a free digital imaging software programme to edit and enhance your digital photo. Tools include colour adjustment, brightness and contrast as well as cropping and cloning options.

The photo sessions will take place at Maltby Library between 2-4pm on Monday and Kiveton Park Library from 2-4pm on Friday.

Jewellery making sessions will be held at Aughton Early Years from 9.30-11.30am, Masons Avenue in Swallowest from 1-3pm, both on Wednesday.

A creative craft session will take place at Kiveton Creative, Old Colliery Offices in Kiveton between 10am and 12pm on Wednesday.

Other sessions will take place across the Rotherham area.

The highlight of the week will come when a local artist will hold a poetry workshop.

On Thursday 17th May, Ray Harne will host the workshop at the new Library, Heritage and Arts space at Riverside from 1-3pm.

Ray is a Rotherham-based writer who help others to put their stories, poems and songs into words.

He is best known to many as presenter, along with Rony Robinson, of Radio Sheffield’s Write On spot. His event, called Write Up Your Street, will take place in the arts space using old photographs of Rotherham.
