Addict stole cheddar

A METHODONE user stole cheese to pay for a fix, a court heard.

Colin Jason Mattey, 24, of Low Town Street, admitted stealing four packs of Seriously Strong cheddar cheese worth £19.20 from Sainsbury’s on 1st June.

Ian Pridham, defending, told Worksop Magistrates Court that Mattey had missed a methadone appointment so his prescription was stopped.

“That is why he resorted to stealing the cheese,” he said.

“Staff watched him because he is not allowed in the store. He left without paying and was followed. He was arrested and made full admissions,” he added.

Mattey was given a six month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £19.20 compensation to Sainsbury’s.
