AA GRUNDI: Do new smoking laws apply to my yacht?

This law applies even if windows or the sunroof is open – but not in a convertible with the roof down.

Grundi is not a smoker –I quit my pipe years ago – so this does not affect me, but I have to wonder how this ban is going to be enforced.

Are they going to install smoking cameras which work like speed cameras and flash if people are seen smoking at the wheel?

Or are they going to have enforcement officers waiting down side roads ready to make chase if they see you lighting up in your car?

As I travel around, I constantly see people updating their Facebook status on their mobile phones or taking an abhorrent “selfie” to send to their acquaintances while they are at the wheel.

These people get away with this scot-free, despite it being illegal.

So how is this going to be any different?

I’m a firm believer that what happens in private – be it in your Roller or mansion – is your own business.

However, you might be surprised to hear I actually support this law.

It will help keep children healthy and hopefully improve their car journeys as they won’t be surrounded by a fog of fumes on the school run or on their way to a family day out.

Since the smoking ban was introduced, going out for a quiet drink has become a much more pleasant experience and now car journeys will go the same way for children.

But where does it end?

Will there become a time when people are banned from smoking in an outdoor public place?

Also, I’m not sure whether this ban extends to the water.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, when I’m on my luxury yacht, do the same rules apply?
