500 jobs at risk as Maltby Colliery is mothballed

AROUND 500 jobs are at risk after Hargreaves Services announced this morning that Maltby Colliery is to be mothballed.

The board announced its decision after reports concluded that a new coal face could not be safely mined.

A statement released today said: “Regrettably, the Board’s proposal inevitably means that all employees working at Maltby Colliery continue to be at risk of redundancy.”

“In the event that redundancies are necessary, the Company remains committed to exploring alternative employment opportunities for staff.”
