Norman Worrell celebrated his 100th birthday at Foxby Court in Gainsborough.

Norman Worrell, who has been a resident of Foxby Court since March, enjoyed a slap-up meal at the Cross Keys pub as part of the celebrations on October 20.

Norman’s daughter, Sue Curtis, said: “My dad had a wonderful day. The meal was followed by a tea party at Foxby with other residents and the family.”

Mr Worrell was born in South Kelsey in 1916 and was a hard worker from the age of 14, when he began ploughing fields on the family farm.

In World War Two he joined the Armed Forces, serving with the Sherwood Forresters in India from 1942 until 1943.

While he was serving he married Mary Willoughby on April 1942 at Stow Church and the couple went on to have two children, Richard and Susan.

Mr Worrell, a keen gardener and sports fan, later joined J.B Edlington of Gainsborough making farm equipment and worked there for 36 years retiring at the age of 70.

Norman was widowed in 2001 and drove a car until he was 93-years-old.
