Man arrested for 'car burglary' in Blyth fails roadside check for EVERY drug on test

A man arrested on suspicion of a car burglary in Blyth shocked police officers when he was found to have no driving licence or insurance, and failed for every drug on a roadside test.

Police from Operation Reacher and the East Bassetlaw Safer Neighbourhood Team stopped a silver Suzuki Alto, which was reported stolen from a burglary in Birmingham, on Tuesday.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Not content with those offences, the driver was also arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence, without insurance and for failing a roadside drugs test for every drug that appears on the test.”

Roadside drugs tests look for a number of illegal substances including cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy.

The passenger was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class B drug.

“It’s coming home,” the spokesperson added. “Well the Suzuki Alto is, but not the two arrested.”
