WIN! Weekend tickets to Headstock Festival

Echo and the Bunnymen, The Lightning Seeds, Craig Charles and Nick Harper are just a few of the acts appearing at this year’s bash.

Headstock is a non-profit, volunteer and musician led festival that takes place at the Newstead and Annesley Country Park, near Nottingham, from Friday 9th - Sunday 11th September.

Despite their fluffy name, Echo and the Bunnymen were part of the 80s scene of dark, psychedelic post-punk.

Fronted by Ian McCullough, the band have been breaking boundaries with critically acclaimed gothic anthems such as The Killing Moon, Nothing Lasts Forever, People Are Strange and Lips Like Sugar.

When Ian Broudie started The Lightning Seeds, he treated it as simply a side-project.

Between then and now the band achieved a number one with Three Lions, released several greatest hits collections and have a brand new record out called Four Winds.

Headstock Festival was set up in 2010 by Newstead Enterprise.

The event is part of a bigger endeavour to create a sustainable future for the village, which suffered severe deprivation after the coal mine closed in 1987.

Newstead’s plight was recognised by the BBC and the Big Lottery Fund, who joined forces on the Village SOS project in a bid to start a rural regeneration.

Other attractions at the festival include street theatre, circus performances, DJ workshops and light installations.

There is a dedicated children’s area called Kidstock, and the Lambhorse Cabaret will be wandering around the site entertaining the crowds.

They’ll also be bringing along their unique photo booth – a decked-out caravan full of costume pieces and props for people to dress up and be snapped in.

A bar will serve real ale and cider at reasonable prices and home made food from local traders will be available.

Weekend camping tickets are £60, tickets for youths aged 12-17 are £35 and under-12’s are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available from www.headstockfestival.com.
