Win! Tickets to see Aladdin in Worksop

CLIMB aboard your magic carpet ready to be transported to Old Peking as the curtain rises on Aladdin at Worksop’s Acorn Theatre for a six-performance run this month.

Monday, 5th December 2011, 11:00 am

The fun-filled family pantomime, directed by Hayla Hawes and performed by The Young Theatre Company, tells the story of poor Peking peasant Aladdin who is recruited by evil sorcerer Abanazar to retrieve a mysterious oil lamp from the Cave of Wonders.

When he rubs the lamp and summons the all powerful genie, his adventures begin to find his fortune, win the heart of his beloved Princess Jasmine and make his dreams come true.

On the way he has to evade a pair of mad Chinese policemen, escape execution, fly a magic carpet to Egypt and defeat and evil sorcerer.

The huge cast of talented local youngsters is led by Aidan Banyard as laundry boy Aladdin, with Jessica Chambers as the hilarious Slave of The Ring and Luke Roebuck as the eccentric Emperor.

As always, the young cast are joined on stage by the ever popular but not so young special guest David Cavell, as the wonderful Widow Twankey.

Show writer Craig Hawes said: “This year’s pantomime is a magical mix of old and new. It’s packed with laughter, traditional panto fun, hilarious characters, show-stopping song and dance numbers and special effects including a magical flying carpet routine!”

Top TV magician Paul Daniels, who is a loyal supporter of The Young Theatre Company, has helped to bring a little magic to the production in the shape of a scary-looking head with glowing eyes - known as the Guardian of the Cave.

Another celebrity ingredient has been provided by the voice of The X Factor, Peter Dickson, who recently took time off his busy TV & Radio schedule to record a special introduction for the pantomime this Christmas.

Said Craig: “Peter recorded a special show introduction for our Christmas show last year, and we’re delighted he’s once again sprinkled some of his vocal magic over our latest production!”

The show runs from Saturday 3rd to Thursday 8th December. Saturday’s performances are both sold out but tickets, priced £6, are still available for remaining shows.
