St ANN’S Performing Arts Space, Rotherham: Rotherham Youth Theatre Summer School presents ‘Park St Cafe’. Show time 7pm. Giovanni is fed up of his mundane life running his back street cafe with wife Jill. The recession is biting and the traditional cafe is taking a beating. Things should be looking up what with the Olympic torch coming past to boost profits but alas things couldn’t be further from the truth and what’s that smell? CLUMBER Park, Worksop: 50 Things Friday. From 1pm every Friday. Join the Clumber Park rangers to discover the great outdoors. SHEFFIELD City Hall: Toby Foster’s Last Laugh Comedy Club. Runs Friday and Saturday. Doors 7pm for 8.15pm start. Jamie Sutherland, Steve Harris, Andy Watson and Justin Moorhouse. Justin’s teasing material always works, and is enlivened by flourishes of language, such as describing his teenage offspring as ‘a yawn in a hood’. SHEFFIELD Don Valley Stadium: Sheftival. Runs Saturday and Sunday. Sheftival takes place across Don Valley Stadium, the English Institute Of Sport Sheffield and Don Valley Bowl. There are eight stages, approximately 1,000 artists, competitors and dancers; three markets, three fairgrounds, free ice skating and 25 sports activities to take part in. MONDAY

NOTTINGHAM Theatre Royal: Murder in the Small Hours by Francis Durbridge. Runs until Saturday 11th August. As part of the Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season 2012. Following on from the record-breaking 2011 season, The Classic Thrillers company are back again to thrill, enthral and have you on the edge of your seats. NOTTINGHAM Royal Concert Hall: Frankie Boyle - The Last Days of Sodom. Show time 8pm. Runs Wednesday and Thursday. Frankie Boyle has been pilloried, misrepresented and demonised. And for what? For Telling It Like It Is. Now he will attempt a final tour, to heal Britain’s fools. To support its rioters. To offer the inchoate laughter of despair to a culture in freefall. THE Crossing, Worksop:

- 22nd September: Leyland Band with Heroes and Celebrations. Ranked number seven in the world and current Brass in Concert UK Champions, this show is not to be missed.

- 13th October: The Derby Concert Band. With an excellent reputation, this is the band’s first ever visit to Worksop. With different instrumentation to a regular brass band, musical director Simon Willis trained with the legendary Grimethorpe Colliery Band and appeared as the band’s percussionist in the Brassed Off TV film starring Pete Postlethwaite.

- 17th November: Keith Hearnshaw FRCO. This brilliant young concert organist will include organ accompaniment to a Silent Film – like the old days.

CAPITAL FM Arena, Nottingham: Elbow, 26th November. Tickets: £29.50. If 2011 was another landmark year for the band, with their debut UK arena tour selling out, a still lauded Glastonbury set, and a series of unique shows that encompassed the crypt of St Paul’s and their hometown’s Manchester Cathedral, then 2012 has proven to be even more significant. Catch the band do one more victory lap of the UK.

HARLEY Gallery, Welbeck: A Menagerie of quirky ceramic animals by Susan O’Byrne. Ceramic creatures migrate to the Harley Gallery this summer, after being on show in France and Germany. They are made from delicate paper clay, layer by layer to create whimsical, loveable sculptures.
