The ‘Best in Brass’ at Crossing

ONE of the best brass bands going, Leyland Band is back by popular demand and will take to the stage at The Crossing on Saturday night.

The band, dubbed the Best in Lancashire, is currently ranked 11th in the world after performances all over the UK and abroad.

In the last 25 years the band has gained prizes at all the major competitions. In 2006 it made its competitive debut representing England at the European Brass Band Championships.

With a wealth of awards, The Crossing’s programmer David Jordan said on the band’s second visit to the Newcastle Street venue: “Their first concert was such an eye opener that it resulted in a lot of people pressing me to bring them back again.”

One of the foremost concert bands around, Leyland has played at leading UK venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Belfast’s Waterfront Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Bridgewater Hall Manchester.

It has also toured extensively abroad, visiting Japan twice, the USA four times, South Korea and all the major European countries numerous times.

The band’s broad repertoire includes classical transcriptions, music from the shows, great marches, movie themes, popular song and stunning solos.
