Sign up for Whitwell Junior Players today

TALENTED youngsters are being sought to come forward and sign up to be part of one of the area’s favourite young amateur dramatic groups.

The Whitwell Junior Players are recruiting for members aged seven and above to be part of their next short musical - Yetta - to be performed from 1st - 3rd November.

Janet Astle’s dream was to set up a group to help young children enter the world of drama through weekly workshops.

To fulfil this dream, she needed someone else to work with her, so she and Amanda Beamish joined forces to get up and running.

After weeks of preparation, the Whitwell Junior Players were set up in April 2008.

Their first show was a short compilation of acts including singing, dancing and short plays - many of which were put together by the children themselves.

Since then, the kinds have performed many more successful productions - including Charles Dickens’ Oliver, several short plays by Mick Newbold and numerous Christmas shows.

Not only that but the children were invited to perform at Mansfield Palace Theatre in September 2009 where they went down a storm and really enjoyed themselves.

“Our Christmas show was a huge success,” said Janet.

“By the end we had more of the audience on stage participating than acting watching! We really raised the spirits of the village and that’s what we love to do.”

She continued: “We are currently working on a short musical called ‘Yetta’ which will be performed in November and we are in need of new players to help us to be able to perform this show.”

“All members are always given a warm and friendly welcome.”

The Whitwell Junior Players meet at Whitwell Community Centre every Tuesday evening between 5.15pm - 7.15pm.

It costs £1 per session plus £1 per year for insurance.
