Rotherham Folk and Jazz weekend returns

MUSIC fans are in for a treat as a feast of folk and jazz comes to Rotherham.

A host of acts from across the UK will entertain the crowds as part of the annual Rotherham Show, which takes place on 8th and 9th September.

Performers at Saturday’s folk concert includes Merseyside’s Elbow Jane, a dynamic contemporary acoustic roots quintet who blend acoustic folk instrumentation with a fresh exciting sound and energy.

Flossie Mallavaille makes a welcome return, while newcomer Sunjay Brayne, a contender for this year’s BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, will entertain the crowds.

To start Saturday afternoon local band Spoil the Dance will perform with Gaynor Brook on vocals, Charlie Smallwood on mandolin and guitar and Steve Brook on guitar and bouzouki.

Compere is Judy Dalton and folk fans will have a treat with a sing-a-round organised by Rob Slow on Sunday afternoon in the Clifton Garden Room, adjacent to the Music Marquee behind Clifton Museum.

The headliners for the Sunday jazz concert are the Jive Aces, recent semi-finalist on Britain’s got Talent.

The six piece group have performed at thousands of festivals, theatres and events across the world.

They are renowned for their high-energy jump jive music, combining a mixture of fresh arrangements of swing, jive and R&B classics along with a selection of swinging originals taken from their studio albums.

Supporting The Jive Aces are the 17 piece Colin Yates Big Band plus the Wendy Kirkland Trio.

MC for the Sunday will be John Dalton.

The 33rd Rotherham Show takes place in Clifton Park.
