Players take to the stage in new rom-com

Self-penned We Found Love and an Exquisite Set of Porcelain Figurines Aboard The SS Farndale will be performed later this month at the Village Hall in Carlton.

The play is set aboard an ocean liner for an excursion into the world of 1930s musical comedy à la Noel Coward!

Their most recent production is a romance set aboard a shipboard cruise back in the swinging 30s.

Or, at least, it would be, if the cast could stop bickering amongst themselves, the stage crew could pick up their cues and any of the actors could remember what they were supposed to be doing or saying on the stage.

“Along with their acting incompetence, the hall is double-booked by a local disco, the scenery does not stay up and the props and costumes go awry!”

“The players drop out of character to quarrel or criticise each other but believing that the show must go on they gamely attempt to prove the age of elegance, glamour and enchantment is not dead.”

“Well, not quite anyway,” says Helen Stephenson of the Lindrick Players.

Despite the many distractions, the group struggle through the plot which incorporates a tug of love between three hearts.

Constance, sailing to Naples to marry Beauregard, meets up with childhood sweetheart Noel.

But with Beauregard also on board, albeit secretly, the love triangle that ensues develops on the voyage.

There’s the inevitable shipwreck on a desert island and eventual rescue.

Nobody’s quite sure how the whole ordeal finishes, though, with that part of proceedings getting seemingly overlooked amidst all the chaos.

However, it’s still well worth going along to find out how the whole plot is brought to a conclusion.

The production opens on Wednesday 9th May and runs for three nights (including Thursday 10th and Friday 11th) at Carlton Village Hall, Long Lane, in Carlton. Performances begin at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £5.50 for adults and £4 for concessions when paid for in advance, or £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for concessions on the door.

The Lindrick Players are also holding auditions for their January 2013 pantomime Knight Fever.
