Pause for Thought

If your wallet or purse is anything like mine it will contain a number of ‘loyalty’, ‘privilege’ or ‘reward’ cards: each of them enabling concessions or perks (albeit at the cost of spending enough with their issuer to qualify for them). 
They reinforce the belief that ‘reward’ is the incentive for spending or doing anything. 
The treasured prayer of St Ignatius of Loyola offers each of us an alternative approach: “To give and not to count the cost … to labour and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do (God’s) will.”
