New chilling murder plays

Following a record-breaking 2011 season, the Nottingham Theatre Royal’s Classic Thriller company return this summer with five brand new chilling murder mysteries to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Adrian Lloyd James, co-producer and director for the Classic Thriller Season, said this year’s programme has been extended to five weeks following the success of last summer’s:

“As all five plays are new thrillers, never performed before in the Rep, the 2012 season is definitely one not to be missed,” he said.

“The company love returning to the Theatre Royal each year, and this time we look forward to treating our loyal fans to some terrific plays they won’t have seen here before . We will keep them guessing right to the end to find out ‘whodunnit’!”

Familiar faces in the cast will return once more to perform different roles throughout the five-week season, including Nicholas Briggs, Jo Castleton, Samuel Clemens, Andrew Dickens, Susan Earnshaw, Karen Henson, John Hester and Patric Kearns.

The season kicks off with Whodunnit from Monday 30th July to Saturday 4th August.

Six strangers gather for dinner, little suspecting that they will be threatened with blackmail by one of their fellow guests. When the potential blackmailer is found dead, Inspector Bowden is called to investigate but, Whodunnit?

Murder in the Small Hours by Francis Durbridge will follow from Monday 6th to Saturday 11th August.

Carl Houston is compelled to find the link between a Koala, an emerald necklace and a chef in this tale of intrigue and suspense.

Monday 13th to Saturday 18th August will see Frankenstein - the classic tale of scientist Victor who unleashes a chain of events that lead to murder, hopelessness and terror.

The Final Twist, which runs from Monday 20th to Saturday 25th August, follows writer Charlie Nicholson who is asked to write a play but little does he know that creating the ‘perfect murder’ could lead to the real thing.

Rounding off the season is Shock!, from Tuesday 28th August to Saturday 1st September.

When guests gather for Maggie’s birthday the celebrations take a sinister turn - culminating in the death of guests and a ‘Shock’ twist.
