Lord of the Flies day special

THE CLASSIC and timeless novel Lord of the Flies is to be celebrated at Trinity Arts Centre with a special discussion of the book followed by a screening of the film adaptation.

This month, the Lunchtime Literature series returns to explore William Golding’s Nobel Prize-winning novel Lord of the Flies, led by Dr Jane Mackay.

The story centres around a group of schoolboys. After a plane crashes on an uninhabited island, these youngsters are the only survivors. They assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued.

By day, they inhabit a land of fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast, before the boys themselves soon start acting like animals as they gradually revert to primitive savagery.

Following a discussion of the text, Trinity Arts Centre will then be showing the second film adaptation of the book.

Released in 1990 and starring Balthazar Getty and James Dale, Harry Hook’s version of the story delivers an updated take on the tale, bathed in the rich colours of its Hawaiian location.

Lunchtime Literature with Dr Jane Mackay presents Lord of the Flies by William Golding on Wednesday 31st August.

The discussion of the book takes place at 12pm and tickets cost £6.50 including a hot beverage.

You do not need to have read the text to attend and enjoy.

The screening of the film takes place at 2pm and tickets are £3.

Tickets are available by calling 01427 676655 or by visiting www.trinityarts.co.uk.

You can also pay on the door on the day.
