Homecoming show for Pulp

SHEFFIELD indie rock legends Pulp have just announced details of a special festive homecoming show for fans this year.

After his recent surprise solo performance at Carlton in Lindrick to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Jarvis Cocker will be uniting once again with his band for a unique Christmas show at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.

A series of cryptic messages have appeared on the band’s official website.

They say that the show should be a historic and emotional affair, with Pulp teasing: “This is the day that (almost) never happened, a journey back to where it all began. May the circle be unbroken - tissues are optional...”

The band, whose classic hits include Common People, Disco 2000, Misshapes, Party Hard and This Is Hardcore, first formed in 1978 but didn’t hit the big-time until the 1990s when they became one of the UK’s most popular Brit-pop acts.

They played their first reunion shows last year after nearly a decade in hiatus and having sold over 10 million records.

The last 12 months have seen the Sheffield band headline festivals across the globe, play two sold-out Brixton Academy shows and most recently perform at The Royal Albert Hall as part of this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust series of gigs.

After releasing and touring two critically acclaimed solo albums, Jarvis Cocker recently spoke about Pulp’s future plans, and definitely ruled out the possibility of the band breaking up again after their 2010 reunion, but was less sure if they could make a new album as a full band - so fans should definitely make the most of this rare and special opportunity to catch Pulp in a special hometown location.

Reviewing their last Yorkshire performance at Leeds Festival 2012, Guardian reporter Andrew Trendell wrote: “Many thought that they’d never see Pulp in their lifetime – let alone at the gig of their lives.”

“Jarvis Cocker has aged like a fine wine, the years have only served him well.”

He added: “The world needs this band.”

Rumours are also rife that fellow Sheffield legend and former band member Richard Hawley may also make another special guest appearance at the show.

Pulp play their hometown Christmas show at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on Saturday 8th December.

Tickets are priced at £30 and are available online by visiting www.motorpointarenasheffield.co.uk.

You can also book by phone by calling 0114 256 5656 and by visiting the Arena box office in person.
