The Dog and Duck: Worth visiting for its service, food and decor

And when my partner and I finally booked a table we were greeted with a smile, menus and corner seats in the exuberantly colourful eating area.

Like the restaurant’s stylish interior, the food choice is pleasantly varied with a host of tempting starters to choose from with dishes ranging from £5 to £7.

I chose pan fried haloumi cheese and while it was well presented, a reasonably sized portion and arrived quickly, my only complaint was that it was a little under salted.

My other half opted for pan fried king scallops atop caramelized white onion puree. It came with crispy pancetta and micro herbs which worked very well although it seemed a little under seasoned.

Throughout the evening, the service was excellent and we were looked after by attentive waiters who were knowledgeable about the menu and helped us choose our main course with dishes ranging from around £10 to £17.

My choice was three way pork and each piece was very well cooked and flavoursome though perhaps it needed accompanying vegetables.

My partner went for chicken supreme which was again well cooked and seasoned but it was nothing out of the ordinary and a little heavy on the thyme and garlic cream sauce.

We still had room for dessert - a delicious salted caramel cheesecake which was as easy on the taste buds as it was on the eye.

Overall I thought the meal was reasonably good and the final price, with two glasses of wine and a pint and a half of lager, was a reasonable £59.

I would recommend it to anyone wanting to eat in the local area for its wide variety of dishes, good service and the relaxed ambience.
