A CAPPELLA trio Coope, Boyes and Simpson are set to launch the 2011 folk season at the Acorn Theatre.

Nominated for the Best Group and Best Album classes in next month’s annual Radio 2 Folk Awards, the men have collected many followers for their soaring unaccompanied harmonies and words that strike a chord in every sense of the word.

Barry Coope, Jim Boyes and Lester Simpson will visit the Newcastle Street venue on Saturday 15th January.

Since their first appearance in 1993, the trio’s distinctive talents have already taken the trio throughout Britain, to the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, France and America.

Their songs have been noticed for dealing with social and environmental issues and the clever use of words.

“Their voices weave through and bounce off each other with a powerful elegance. It’s nice to know that, even with the numbing array of technology available, the human voice is still one of the most expressive instruments around,” wrote one American reviewer.

“As passionate a tour de force of unaccompanied singing as you can imagine,” said Mojo.

Rock n’ Reel commented: “Quite simply the best purveyors of A Cappella song on these islands.”

Coope Boyes & Simpson are at Acorn Theatre on Saturday 15th January 2011 at 7.30.

Tickets £12, concessions £11 and can be purchased through (01909) 501817 (Mon, Wed, Fri 12pm-3pm and Sat 10am-12pm).
