Another great afternoon at Worksop Cricket, Sports and Social Club on Central Avenue, where members of Worksop Women’s Institute were entertained by Maggie Allen, who shared her collection of ladies’ vintage undergarments. These ranged from a pair of bloomers, similar to those favoured by Queen Victoria, through to a series of metal reinforced corsets, to a shortie nightie from the 1950s. All her items were interesting to see but Maggie’s turn of phrase and humorous anecdotes almost brought the house down and potentially brought back a few memories.
Everyone regained their composure over tea and biscuits before continuing the meeting with the more business like concerns of organising a coffee morning, a ploughman’s lunch and outings to Harlow Carr, Chatswoth House and the W I autumn meeting at Newark.
On August 4, members will be spending the afternoon visiting The Harley Gallery and Welbeck Garden centre and the next meeting at Worksop Cricket, Sports and Social Club will be on September 1.
If you would like to join the group, please pop along at 1.45pm. You will be made most welcome. For further information contact Averil Ley telephone number 01909 482918.
