A great place to catch up over lunch

Being on deadline we needed somewhere tasty and welcoming but quick and convenient, and so decided to head for the Millhouse pub off the A57 roundabout in Worksop.

Just a short walk from the town centre, the Sizzling Pub has plenty of parking, which makes it handy for anyone looking for hearty food and drink at cracking prices.

The pub was packed with plenty of people of all ages enjoying their lunch but we easily found a table and sat down to peruse the menu.

The ‘Your Good Food Local’ menu was packed with plenty of yummy-sounding dishes, from salads and pastas to classic favourites and the pubs signature Sizzling Skillets.

My colleague Sam and I decided to go for a filled baguette - I chose the Cajun and Mozzarella grill (£2.99) while Sam plumped for the Smothered Chicken (£3.69) and Tom choosing the Cheeseburger from the wallet-tastic £2.99 range.

After deciding on our dishes we went to queue at the bar and waited a good five minutes before our orders were taken.

It seemed our waitress was multi-tasking to the max - taking orders to the kichen and getting drinks as well as serving the many customers.

But we didn’t have too long to wait however for our food to arrive at our table and looked attractively-presented.

Our seeded brown baguettes were soft and tasty and packed with delicious fillings.

I enjoyed my vegetarian grill drizzled with sour cream while Sam commented her baguette was crammed with ‘really tasty’ chicken and plenty of BBQ sauce.

We were also pleased to see they came with a generous helping of tortilla chips - had I known I wouldn’t have ordered a side portion of fries for £1 extra.

But they still went down a treat, nevertheless, with plenty of ketchup.

We were less taken with the promised ‘dressed mixed leaves’ - they were not dressed and were pretty uninspiring.

Tom said his cheeseburger and chips were tasty enough and great value when you consider most shop-bought sandwiches cost around £2.99.

The Millhouse won’t win any awards for fine dining but that’s not what it is about.

It’s about offering the customer a great range of dishes throughout the day at great value prices in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and it more than did the job on our visit.
