NHS workers, local businesses and a Rotherham choir banded together to create a festive message to encourage people across Yorkshire to quit smoking.

The video produced by Yorkshire Smokefree parodies the famous 12 Days of Christmas to promote the benefits of giving up smoking.

Carmen Woodcock, I.T Manager at Bigfoot Digital, who took part in the video said, “As a former smoker I know how hard it is to quit at Christmas because temptation seems to be everywhere. I wanted to take part in this video because the telephone support service offered by Yorkshire Smokefree was something I have benefited from personally. Having someone on the end of the phone giving me encouragement and advice really did give me a boost when I felt like giving in. This song gives 12 great reasons for why you should stop smoking, and also shows those who are working hard behind the scenes for the NHS, supporting anyone who wishes to quit”.

“We had a lot of fun filming this and despite the dodgy beards and perhaps at times, questionable singing, I think it turned out great”.

Yorkshire Smokefree supports people within Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Wakefield and Calderdale who want to quit smoking.

The concept is unique to with support available in person, over the telephone, via online live chat or a personalised online portal. You can create your account for free on the Yorkshire Smokefree website

The alternative, smoke-free version of the 12 Days of Christmas was written by NHS smoking support worker Denise Hinds back in 2004 and the local NHS team decided to bring it to life with the help of Friends in Harmony Choir Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster face-to-face support workers, Team Active, Bob’s Business and Bigfoot Digital.
