Inspirational Wendy launches new Slimming World group in Shireoaks

A gran who shed three stone and changed her life and health by doing so, is launching a new Shireoaks group, to help others achieve their weight loss goals.

Former Worksop woman Wendy Whitehouse, 59, felt increasingly unhappy when her weight crept up, particularly during the time of Covid, and lockdown.

She said: "We were at home more and I was eating and drinking too much, and gained weight as a result. At thirteen-and-a-half stone I found I couldn't do things I wanted to. Running round after my three three grandsons was a real effort."

As the extra weight remained, she began to experience increasing joint pain, stiffness and reduced mobility.

Concerned about her health, she visited her doctor in 2022 and was diagnosed with arthritis.

Rather than accept reduced mobility as an inevitable part of ageing, Wendy decided to explore how she might improve her health, and discovered that losing weight and becoming more active could help reduce the strain on her joints.

She initially started to lose weight on her own, but progress was slow.

In desperation, Wendy joined a local Slimming World group and found the support she needed. She has now lost three stone steadily over three years.

Since reaching her goals, Wendy has embraced activities she previously thought were beyond her reach.

She said: "I've learned to paddleboard, experienced the thrill of a zip wire ride over a beach, and can take the dogs on longer walks.

"Most importantly, I can keep up with my energetic grandsons."

Inspired by the positive impact Slimming World has had on her life, Wendy, who lives in Woodsetts, is now relaunching a group in Shireoaks, offering support, encouragement and guidance to anyone who wants to lose weight or improve their health.

The mum-of-four and step-mum of one said: The new Shireoaks group will provide a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where members can share experiences, celebrate successes and learn sustainable habits that fit into everyday life.

"Slimming World has helped millions of people across the UK achieve their weight-loss goals while still enjoying foods they love.

"I'm excited to welcome both new and returning members when the group opens its doors later this month".

To join Wendy's new group, go along to Shireoaks Village Hall on June 30, at 5pm. For more details call 07805 063160.
